The concert ”Friends for Barka UK” in Embassy of the Republic of Poland in London

The concert has as a purpose raising awareness about the issue of homelessness of Central and Eastern European migrants in the UK and the work of Barka UK in tackling it. Barka charity was established in the capital in June 2007 in response to an appeal by London boroughs and organizations, due to the growing concern about homelessness among Central and Eastern European migrants.

Barka’s mission is to empower severely excluded people to regain their independence and dignity by social integration. Barka also offers support for their personal development through education and entrepreneurship.

Barka works in close partnership with local councils, outreach teams, day centres and CEE Consulates, including the Consular Section of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland.

20.40 Reception

Dear Friends, Homelessness is a devastating experience – imagine having to sleep on the street on a cold winter’s night and having no one to turn for help. It is a frightening and lonely place to be, which often brings about further consequences: addiction, violence, health deterioration and loss of dignity.

In order to support those who need it the most, we would like to invite warmheartedly all readers to support our organisation Barka UK and its important project Free Helpline. Its existence has been put into question due to financial pressures. The Helpline has been running for almost 3 years and has supported over 3,000 people struggling not only with homelessness, but also with other daily challenges of living and working abroad. Thanks to the Free Helpline number 0800 171 2926 many have found long lost hope and managed to rebuild their lives. Your support will further enable fulfilment of this important mission for the protection of humanity.

In order to save the Helpline we would like to ask You to text ‘BAUK10’ to
70070 with your donation of £1 to £10 (e.g. BAUK10£5 for a £5 donation).

Barka UK has been operating in the UK since 2007 and its mission is to provide help to those who, because of various life situations, need support. Thanks to our projects, over 3000 homeless people from London’s streets have returned to families and rehabilitation and social integration centres in their countries of origin. Many people have entered into the job market through our Social Economy Centre’s Employment Project and over 3000 people have been supported by Helpline, which offers a range of services from legal support to help finding accommodation.

Kind regards,
Ewa Sadowska
Barka UK CEO
